Layering sounds is a great way of adding fullness to your mix. DJ and music producer Jody Wisternoff recently created an Ableton Live song template available at BeatElite.com in which he used this layering technique to achieve a full bass sound. In this clip Mikiah from BeatElite.com breaks down Jody’s Ableton Live template to explain how he went about layering the multiple bass lines.
Learn how to:
1. Articulate bass riffs together to achieve playfulness and tonal character.
2. Layer sounds using simple EQ filtering and compression techniques.

Multiband compressors offer the ability to spilt frequency ranges allowing each band to be processed independently from each other. Jody Winsternoff, electronic music producer, dj and one half of the group Way Out West alongside Nick Warren, recently produced an Ableton Live template for Beatelite in which he used the multiband dynamics plugin on the drum group to add sparkle to the high end while not affecting the rest of the kit. We interviewed Jody to get his thoughts on other uses for multiband compression. In this video Mikiah from Beatelite explains how Jody used the multiband dynamics plugins to add sparkle and clarity to the templates drum kit within Ableton Live.

Layering is a common mixing technique in music production. By stacking different sounds together you can design fuller, more intricate instruments such as synth and bass lines. Jody Winsternoff, electronic music producer, dj and one half of the group Way Out West alongside Nick Warren, recently produced an Ableton Live template for Beatelite in which he layered multiple bass sounds and patterns to achieve a cohesive and interesting bass line. We interviewed Jody to get his perspective on the benefits of using this technique to bring out the bass part within a composition.
To demonstrate how Jody layered and processed the bass sounds with his Ableton Live template Mikiah from Beatelite.com shares how to create track groups in Ableton Live and breaks down the template’s bass section to explain how each layer fits into the overall mix.
